The first instalment in a themed trilogy of limited edition prints exhibiting across the country this year, "Rip Off" is a free public exhibition of unique artworks that can be viewed from 4 June at alphabet bar, Soho, W1.
Created by The Daylight Robbers (Hugh Brooker and Jean-Pierre Durand) the "Rip Off" canvasses initially resemble textured collage paintings, but closer inspection reveals fascinating photographs of decaying, pre-resurfaced billboards and advertising space. The history of our city and our culture is held in these built-up layers of posters and "Rip Off" digs beneath the surface - what lies beneath? Pealing back London's skin reveals forgotten stories.
Like a psychologist's inkblot test, these scratched, scraped and multi-layered time capsule images disclose a myriad of distorted faces, creatures and scenes that are processed and perceived differently by each individual viewer.
